The NC Department of Transportation has proposed a corridor extension of Jacksonville Parkway to improve traffic in City of Jacksonville. Currently, in design, the parkway extension will impact the current location and response in the area by the Jacksonville Fire Department, requiring the need for a new replacement station on an adjacent site. Davis Kane is working with the town to develop a 13,118 SF fire station, improving on a recent prototype to replace their existing station that can meet modern first responder requirements for the next 50 years. The new station is designed to provide a footprint and system layout for future expansion if the demand for fire services in the area grows.
The new single-story fire station includes:
+ Three pull-through bays, each long enough for a platform ladder apparatus.
+ Six Individual dorm rooms with an open-concept Day Room, Kitchen, and Dining space.
+ Fitness Room with outdoor access.
+ Watch Desk and Administrative Offices.
+ Hot zone/cold zone isolation design for station occupant safety, which includes separated decontamination spaces with a shower, isolated PPE cleaning and storage areas, and transition zones with isolated mechanical supply/exhaust system coordination.
+ Historical display of Jacksonville Department memorabilia, including a fire pole, in the main entrance.
